About Me.

My name is Travis Lee Gearhart, and I have been married about 4 years to my beautiful wife Sandra. We have a young son that is 2 and a daughter who is 4 months old. I have been pretty involved with local politics, and continue to keep an eye on national politics. I keep myself pretty busy between work, school, and family, and whenever I have some spare time I like to throw up a piece here. It may not be as consistent as it used to be, but I like to think I make up with quality over the lack of quantity. I also cross-post the Steve Dalton’s site, Northwest Indiana Politics, as well as to the Peterson Post and I occasionally write for the Indiana Fair Tax site (all three of these links can be found on the right hand of the screen). Additionally, I’ve written pieces for the local Times paper, and have been featured in a couple of pieces for the Post-Tribune. I have written several pieces for IUN Phoenix, the college newspaper, and have also been featured in an article for them about my site as well.

All in all, I consider myself to be a pretty conservative fellow, with some tinges of libertarianism, some more moderate beliefs, and, well, common sense. I don’t care too much about being so completely ideologically bound to an idea that I won’t hear outside opinion. If I wanted to do that, I’d join a cult and worship hamsters of something. What I care about is common sense (and yes, I used this word before Glenn Beck decided to). I’m more than willing to talk and argue about almost anything, however if your comments start out “Hey you retard…” I probably won’t be too willing to give real critical thought towards the matter.

Anybody that has met me knows how I am. I’m a pretty even keeled fellow. This past year I was made Precinct Committeeman of Boone 4, Precinct 4, here in Hebron, and I’ve had a great time getting to know all of the people in the Republican party in this county. We have a great bunch of guys and gals in this party, in this county, and I look forward to helping out in the future.

Well, I hope you enjoy my little blog. Please feel free to comment (respectfully), and leave your opinion or two cents.

Thanks uncle Brent! Yeah, I don’t keep it as updated as I need to (never seems to be enough hours in the day) but I’m happy that you like it nonetheless!

    Travis,
What is the chance we will ever see a flat tax? If we were to get one, what will a fair % be?

Or should we just go to a fed sales tax?

The chance of a flat tax is, unfortunately, a lot smaller than a fed sales tax (or even a system that is set up very similar, like the Fair Tax). The reason I say this is that the flat tax has been pigeonholed as a Republican deal rather than a comprehensive way to eliminate a burdensome tax system like we have now. I don’t know for sure what a “fair” percentage would be (after all, no matter what number is put forth, it is going to be lambasted as “helping the rich”); Russia and Germany have been in an all out “flat tax war”, so to speak, trying to get the lowest percentage without reaching zero. A fed sales tax would probably be more realistic, because the Fair Tax has a number of Democrat co signers. In order to make either become a reality though, unfortunately, there needs to be a LOT more Republicans in both the House and the Senate, plus a Republican president. Hopefully after 2012 we can fix that.
